Sania Mirza
Sania Mirza created tennis history by becoming the first Indian woman ever to win a Grand slam event

How does it feel to lift the girl's doubles crown at Wimbledon?
It's a dream come true. Wimbledon makes it all the more special. I couldn't believe it initially. But it's now sinking in slowly.

Why has it taken so long for Indian women to break into world tennis?
We've always found it difficult to find sponsors. And then, many Indian women get married fairly early.

What makes you an exception?
I've always been lucky with sponsors. I am backed by the GVK group and Adidas who picked me when I was 12.

What are your strengths and weaknesses?
My ground strokes are my strength, but my fitness can definitely improve.

What next?
Some more coaching, in the US or in Bangalore, and then on to the US Open.

What is your main focus?
I am happy to have done well in the girl's doubles but my main focus is the singles and to make a mark in the senior circuit.

Power players are dominating women's tennis. Are you equally strong?
Frankly, I don't want to look like the Williams sisters. But you have to be strong.

How confident are you of your career?
I think I have enough to make it to the top 50.

Whom do you credit your success to?
My parents, coaches, and God.

Who is your idol?
My all-time favourite is Steffi Graf.
